Although I believe that I have a strong self-image, I do believe that I have some room for improvement in regards to my self-image. I tend to find myself being my worst critic, which is something that I work daily to improve upon. Throughout my journey within the Emerging Leader's Academy at the University of Mary, I have learned that your self-image is not just skin deep. Previously, I had believed that self-image was only skin deep. Through my Emerging Leaders course, I have come to realize and understand that my self-image is the way that I tend to see myself in every light. I began to notice that when I was lacking in any possible way, I would get upset with myself and shut down. Through many talks with important people in my life, including Dr. Jonas, I have learned that I need to find a way to get through the times of hardship and continue to persevere through life. Prior to learning about my positive self-image, I saw myself as someone who had to continuously be doing something because I was afraid of the things I needed to improve upon. After understanding that I was trying to be busy all of the time to save myself from confrontation of the things I needed to improve upon, I began to cut activities and jobs out of my schedule. I have now begun to take time for myself and develop a self-image that I am incredibly proud of. By creating this positive self image, I will be able to develop into a great leader. I will be able to understand how to cope with frustrations holding me back, so that I am able to continue to help those around me reach our common goal and succeed.
