While abroad in Ireland, I began to dig in deep to the roots of what it means to be a servant leader. I found that becoming a servant leader meant sacrifice. I consider a servant leader someone who's goal as a leader is to serve. This person has the heart to lead, but also take initiative to serve while they are doing it, alongside those they are leading. While in Ireland, I served at a homeless shelter, served within local communities, and served to students in local schools. I involve myself in Day of Service, in local classrooms in Bismarck, Heaven's Helper's, and on my local Serve Team at Evangel. I had the opportunity through ELA to host a workshop with Dr. Jonas at Griggs County High School, where we helped students complete various team building activities and grow in our servant leadership as a group. During my ELA experience, I was given the opportunity to be a Pen Pal with a student from Shepherd Elementary School in Montana. Through this experience, I was able to discuss with my Pen Pal the experiences college has given me and what things the student is looking forward to in their life. I was recently given a goal of Missions from the Lord, which has led me to Romania this summer to serve young children and women at the RDSN community, which is a brand new church helping mothers and children back onto their feet. I have learned that serving includes giving a sacrifice to make the world a better place. I am beyond excited to continue staying involved and serving those around me.
